Tablet time

The rumours about the Apple and Microsoft tablets are rife, and have been circulating, unconfirmed, for a while now, picking up momentum with recent reports that a number of publishers including Conde Nast are tweaking their digital magazine publishing format specifically to work with such a device.
The question of what's really coming first - the Apple tablet-chicken or the magazine publisher's format-egg is still yet to be answered directly, but what the rumours, the gossip and the "leaked details" about these tablets points to is the fact that consumers are wanting far more from the current reader platforms available. There can be no question that the rich-media tablet experience is in demand and on its way - please step forward the Vega, the JooJoo and the Archos 9 PCtablet; tablets we can see already on the market.
if it's just a waiting game for the Apple and Microsoft tablets, then we're happy that at Ouno Creative we're already producing the rich-media content to fit straight on them. Sports Illustrated recently released a video depicting a digital version of their publication and whilst interesting we couldn't help but think that it just echoes the interactive media work we are already producing here at Ouno Creative.
We look forward to the developments these tablet products may bring with them because we love building rich media content. However, tablet or no tablet, digital publications are equally at home on a laptop or a P.C so one thing seems for sure as publisher's find it increasingly difficult to maintain previous mementum of sales of their printed editions, digital editions will begin to thrive. And as consumer magazines set themselves up for the tablet, we're excited to see just how the B2B and B2C communications markets will follow the leads set by the publishing power-houses.
As for those rumours, if they are to be believed we'll be watching to see if the Apple headache isn't finally given a tablet some time around February…
