Layar Vision

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 by Adrian

'Layar' is a Dutch company that works in the field of augmented reality, bringing impactful AR graphics into people's everyday lives.

It works by streaming image input from your mobile camera and adds on a number of layers. This allows users to look around for the nearest pub or house for sale on your mobile phone.

The software, which runs on androids, iPhones, Symbian and BlackBerry 7 OS devices also has an extension called 'Layar Vision'. This add-on of the Layar platform can recognise real world objects and display digital AR experiences on top of them.

Vision can tell what's augmented reality as users will pre-load images into the application. Vision then scans the image and creates its own unique fingerprint which is sent back to the Vision user.

Each time the image is scanned by the user, Vision will be able to pick up what information is relevant to it and show the appropriate AR graphics.
