AgustaWestland: Graphic Design Services

The Brief:
Anglo-Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland needed to refresh the look of it's multi-lingual in-house magazine RotaryWing whilst applying to the design a strict set of corporate style guidelines. The challenge was to fit both Italian and English copy into the new approved page layout grids without making the design become overcrowded.
The solution:
We worked within the style guidelines to create a publication that gave equal weighting to Italian and English text without making pages look cluttered. We recommended that the magazine pagination be increased to allow for a number of 'hero' pages which were design/image led, providing relief from the often word-dense pages of a multi-lingual publication.
We developed a fast and efficient system for getting English copy translated to Italian and for dealing with Italian copy that was routinely 20% longer than the English equivalent.
We have introduced a much more adventurous use of imagery and cropping of images and a far bolder use of typography.
The Result:
RotaryWing magazine has gone from strength to strength, with the brand growing to include posters, pocket diaries, DVDs and special reports. Over the course of our partnership with AgustaWestland we have become experts at interpreting and applying the corporate brand. So much so that we have been commissioned to produce the official style guide manual for all AgustaWestland internal publications.
We have built an excellent working relationship with AgustaWestland which has led to further work including the creation of interactive PDFs and web banners. We are now developing an interactive magazine concept for this client.
