NASA: Graphic Design Services

The Brief:
We are specialists in information graphics and leaders in the field of visually packaging complex information. So when NASA approached us to produce a poster for their Communications and Education directorate the Ouno team jumped at the chance.
The brief was to produce an informative large scale wall poster commemorating the 50th anniversary of the NASA flight test program. The poster had to appeal to aerospace professionals as well as members of the public, so the content was not to be 'dumbed down'.
Ouno would be responsible for the entire project, from concept to research and writing right through to the delivery of hi-res PDFs for print.
The Solution:
We developed a 'MegaGraphic' - a large scale poster packed with engaging information and state-of-the-art graphics. We used the entire spectrum of graphic techniques - from 3D visualisations to historical photography to vector graphics, tables and charts. Our designers and writers worked closely with the client to bring their amazing stories to life. We combined words, data, graphics and images into one visually powerful A0 size poster which gives the viewer a 'big picture' overview.
The centre piece of our design was a 3D cutaway of the historical X-15 rocket plane created using 3D Studio Max. To ensure accuracy our design team worked closely with three NASA engineers and had to interpret complex technical drawings.
The Result:
NASA printed 25,000 high quality posters which are currently being used for educational purposes in the US and marketing purposes globally. A digital version can now be downloaded from the NASA website which utilises the graphics we created. Ouno have also created an animated flypast movie using the 3D model (this can be viewed by viewing work for NASA within our portfolio section). The poster was also featured in the Royal Aeronautical Society Journal.
"We are actually handing them out this week at the Paris Airshow so congrats! They have been well received."
Maria Werries, Multimedia Producer. NASA
"The poster is looking great. The X-15 animation was very cool, too!"
