TFC Wines: Website Design and Build

The Brief:
Ouno was recently put to the test by TFC Wines, a Napa Valley based company specialising in low alcohol wines (don't ask how we made the initial contact, sometimes these things just happen).
They needed a website- and fast. They were trying to break into the UK wine market and for the first time ever would be taking a stand at the London International Wine Fair.
The problem was they needed a new website built from scratch which would need to be up and working in less than six weeks. Could Ouno deliver the goods - and by their own admission TFC would be demanding clients! Oh, and the budget was miniscule but the site had to look 'big budget' and established.
Our solution:
We had very little starting material to work with - a basic logo, some fairly ordinary purchased stock photography and the Avant Garde type family.
It was time to make a silk purse from a sows ear. We very quickly brainstormed three design routes for the website. The client loved the simple, elegant designs created by Kathy Clear, one of our style gurus who has heaps of retail web design experience under her belt.
We created a modular layout grid which enabled our design team to quickly build a number of pages whilst retaining a consistent look and feel.
The design had to appeal to a younger audience and to young women in particular, but without alienating men. The site had to feel fresh, confident and established.
We added a number of interactive elements to bring the pages to life, including a Flash generated slideshow for the home page, an interactive locator map and streaming FLV format video.
A nice touch was the animated wine rack effect we created that made wine bottles tilted at 45 degrees (as if held within a virtual wine rack) pop-up as they were moused over. As each bottle popped up an accompanying panel of information about the wine would appear.
The result:
Thanks to good project management (and some hard graft), the Ouno team were able to design, build, test, optimize and host a dynamic website for a client based in California all within six weeks. The website was up and running in time for the clients first appearance at the London International Wine Fair, providing them with a professional looking global presence just when they needed it.
The event proved a success and TFC got the entry into the British supermarket sector it had been looking for. The client was very impressed with the speed in which Ouno delivered the site. He personally did not think Ouno would be able to have the site live in such a short time frame.
The client got one hell of a deal - Ouno delivered a rock solid site to an exceptionally tight budget and timeframe. And the site is still working hard for them today…
